Where do I start?

If your ambition is to become self–employed, you don't have to get there on your own because the SHU Enterprise Team is here to help you make it happen and improve your chances of success.

As a Sheffield Hallam student or graduate from the last five years, you are eligible for free access to our specialist start-up support and resources to improve your chances of success. Our offer is available to all Sheffield Hallam students or graduates from the last five years who are either, interested in or already working for themselves. Your idea can be anything from a dog walking business or a freelance artist to setting up your own film company or developing a product for the market. No matter what your idea, we will help you turn it into a reality, so come and talk to us!

Where do I start?

The first step would be to attend one of our weekly self-employment info sessions which are held on both campuses as follows:

  • Careers and Employability Centre: every Wednesday at 5pm (4pm outside of term time).
  • Heart of the Campus (Collegiate Crescent) in the Student Services Centre: every Tuesday at 12.30pm (in term time only)

There is no need to book. A member of the Enterprise Team will be on hand to outline the full range of our offer and to ensure that you are signposted to the most appropriate support to help kick-start your idea, no matter what stage you are at in your planning. You can also phone us on 0114 225 3131 or email enterprise@shu.ac.uk.
