What is Enactus?

Enactus is an international not-for-profit organisation that brings together students, academics and business leaders from more than 1,650 universities across 36 countries. There are currently 60 Enactus universities in the UK, and Sheffield Hallam has become the latest to join. It is the largest student organisation to promote Social Enterprise. 

The aim of the Enactus programme is to provide opportunities for students to form student-led sustainable projects which will improve the quality of life of people in need by empowering them with skills and knowledge they need to make a better life for themselves.  Projects can range from supporting local homeless or unemployed communities in your area to developing international projects which will benefit whole communities.

What does Enactus stand for?

ENtrepreneurial - having the perspective to see an opportunity and the talent to create value from that opportunity.

ACTion - the willingness to do something and the commitment to see it through even when the outcome is not guaranteed.

US - a group of people who see themselves connected in some important way; individuals that are part of a greater whole.

What are the benefits of being involved?

  • Visit us in the Hallam i-Lab at our weekly Open House Wednesday afternoons. Drop in anytime between 13.00 - 16.00. The Hallam i-Lab is a dedicated enterprise and entrepreneurial incubation space on floor 6 of Aspect Court, on Pond Hill.

Information on Enactus for academic staff

Enactus is a global network of students, academics and business leaders in a not-for-profit organisation that is active in over 1,650 universities worldwide across 36 countries. In the UK alone, Enactus collaborates with 60 partner universities of which Sheffield Hallam is the most recent, joining in 2018. 

The aim of the Enactus programme is to provide opportunities for students to form student-led sustainable projects which create economic and social opportunities for communities at local, national and international level.

The Enterprise Team and the Students Union have joined forces to support Enactus at Sheffield Hallam and provide the right advice and guidance to students. There are two distinct pathways available for student involvement:

  • As an extra-curricular/voluntary project
  • Short-term accredited work experience opportunity
  • As part of an accredited module programme
